Executive Summary
Winter Springs, Fla. – The State of Kentucky took center stage during a recent Gravis Marketing / Human Events poll completed September 13th-September 16th, 2014. Gravis Marketing, a non-partisan research firm based in Winter Springs, Fla. along with Human Events; a leading online-political publication conducted a random survey of 839 likely registered voters in Kentucky regarding current political events and potential match-ups for the upcoming November 2014 general election. The polls were conducted using automated telephone IVR polls and the results weighed according to anticipated voting demographics. The Gravis Marketing poll carries a margin of error of 3%.
Federal Politics Findings
The first question asked of the 839 registered voters in Kentucky inquired about their opinion of the job performance of President Barack Obama. A large majority of 59% of Kentucky registered voters stated that they ‘disapprove’ of the President’s current job performance, while only 32% support the job performance of President Obama. 9% of those polled were unsure of their current opinion.
The focus of the poll then shifted towards potential candidates for the Presidential office in 2016; including current State of Kentucky Senator Rand Paul competing against potential Democratic candidates Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Hillary Clinton of Arkansas. When asked to choose between Paul and Clinton, 46% would currently vote for the Kentucky Senator while 44% would cast a vote for Clinton. When asked about their choice between Paul and Warren; the gap increased; with Sen. Rand Paul receiving a 50% voting segment, to Warren’s 30% support rating. 18% of voters in Kentucky were unsure of whom they would vote for between Paul and Warren while only 10% were unsure when choosing between Paul and Clinton.
Additional Federal Polling Results
When asked about their opinions in regards to State of Kentucky politics, the 839 registered voters polled seemed to continue their support for their Incumbent Senator Mitch McConnell. When asked; “If the race for election for US Senate were held today and the candidates were Republican Mitch McConnell and Democrat Alison Lundgren Grimes, whom would you vote for?”, a majority of voters; (51%) would currently support McConnell, while (41%) would cast a vote for Democrat Alison Lundgren Grimes. 8% of those living in Kentucky were unsure as to whom they would vote for in November.
The shift of the polling then focused on government control of immigration and of potential Federal Regulation of Online Gambling. The voters were asked; “Are you comfortable with federal authorities bringing illegal aliens into Kentucky from the Mexican border?” An overwhelming majority (73%) stated NO, they are not comfortable with federal authorities bringing illegal aliens into Kentucky. 14% of those polled indicated support of that action, while 13% were unsure.
Finally, the voters in Kentucky were asked, “Should Congress pass legislation overriding the ability of states to legalize and regulate online gambling?” In this case, the idea seemed to surprise voters, as 46% were ‘unsure’ of their opinion on this matter, 39% said ‘NO’ and 15% indicated they would support congressional legislation overriding the states regulation of online gambling.
