Final Kentucky Republican Primary Poll: McConnell +14 Over Bevin

Human Events and Gravis Marketing conducted a random survey by automated calls to landlines  of 629 registered voters who have voted in a prior republican primary, regarding current events.  The poll carries a margin of error of  ± 4%. The poll was conducted May 12, 2014

 

Republican voters were asked, “If the Republican primary were held today, would you vote for Matt Bevin or Mitch McConnell?” 48% indicated a preference for the incumbent, Senator McConnell, while 34% stated they preferred Matt Bevin. In a similar poll conducted in April 2014, Senator McConnell held a 17-point advantage over Republican primary challenger Matt Bevin by a 51% to 34% margin with 15% indicating uncertainty. When examining the recent poll data on party identification Senator McConnell holds a significant lead among Republicans over Bevin 60.2% to 25.3%; however, among Independents McConnell’s advantage is considerably less 46.5% to 41.8%.

 

The April poll also examined voter assessment of Senator McConnell’s conservative credentials, when asked, “Is Senator McConnell as conservative today as he was when he first ran for the Senate?” Among voters of all parties 37% indicated that Senator McConnell was not as conservative with 32% stating uncertainty and 32% indicated that he had maintained his conservative values. The most recent numbers are similar with 38% indicating that Senator McConnell was not as conservative with 30% indicating that he had maintained his conservative values and 32% stating uncertainty.

 

When all voters were asked, “Has Senator McConnell done enough to end Obamacare?” The most recent numbers show 46% indicated that he was not done enough, 39% stated he had opposed the law sufficiently while 16% were uncertain.  In the previous poll, 46% indicated that he was not done enough to end Obamacare, 29% stated he had opposed the law sufficiently while 25% were uncertain.
