Gravis Marketing conducted a random phone survey of 1,232 registered voters in Florida by automated ivr polling phone calls to landlines on_ 06/20/14-06/23/14 regarding support for the proposed Constitutional Amendment legalizing medical marijuana on the set for the November 2014 ballot and the upcoming Gubernatorial and Attorney General Elections. Governor
Respondents revealed that the race between Rick Scott and Charlie Crist remains relatively close with 41% of polled voters stating that if the election were held today that they would vote for Rick Scott and 39% stating they would cast their vote for Charlie Crist. 6% of voters revealed they would vote for Adrian Wyllie while 15% expressed they were unsure about their vote. Unsure voters who could affect the gap between Crist and Scott as the election draws closer could certainly decide this race. A similar poll was conducted in April 2014 in that poll, 44% of those polled stated that if the election were held today that they would vote for Rick Scott and 43% stating they would cast their vote for Charlie Crist. The current results represent a slight change from the April survey with voters expressing uncertainty increasing from 9% to 15% in the latest poll.
Attorney General
When surveyed about the Attorney General race, voters indicated that if the election for Attorney General were held today, 43% would vote for Pam Bondi, while 38% stated they would vote for Perry Thurston and only 5% stated they would cast a vote for Bill Wohlsifer. 16% of voters stated they were uncertain as to their vote for Attorney General.
With George Sheldon added to the questionnaire in place of Perry Thurston, Bondi’s support remained the same, while 35% of voters expressed support for George Sheldon. Unsure voters increased from 15% to 16%. The main take away from these data indicate that the Attorney General’s race will likely be a three-way contest with Bondi holding a cushion over Thurston and Sheldon with a significant amount of unsure voters who could potentially tighten up the race. These current results remain on par with data collected in April 2014 with little change between the two scenarios.
Medical Marijuana
The polling data indicates growing support for the amendment with a notable amount of uncertainty. When polled regarding their broad support for the amendment, a modest majority, 50% of the surveyed voters, indicated general support for the Amendment while 37% expressed opposition and 13% indicated they were unsure of their position. When compared to the April survey conducted on the issue, support for the proposed amendment only sat at 45% with 46% indicating opposition. This shift is also marked by an increase in voters who expressed uncertainty.
