Race for Florida Gov a DEAD HEAT – Growing Support for Medical Marijuana Highlight Recent Gravis Marketing Florida Poll
Executive Summary
Winter Springs, Fla. – A continued disapproval rating for President Barack Obama, a current tie in the race for Governor and strong support for a Medical Marijuana ballot initiative highlight a recent Gravis Marketing poll completed from August 14 – August 24, 2014 in The State of Florida. This past week Gravis Marketing – a nonpartisan research firm based in Winter Springs, Fla. conducted a random survey of 859 registered voters in Florida regarding current or potential election matchups for the upcoming mid-term 2014 election and the 2016 Presidential General Election.
The poll was conducted using the Gravis Marketing Internet Panels and Automated Calls with a ratio of 20% / 80%. On internet responses, only respondents that indicated a choice of “mostly” or “only” use their cell phones as their primary voice communication were included. Overall, the poll has a margin of error of ± 4%.
As noted earlier, the recent Gravis Marketing poll sought the opinions of 859 currently registered voters in The State of Florida who indicated their political affiliations were rather balanced; with 37% indicating they were Democratic, 36% stating support for the Republican Party while 27% stated they were Independent voters.
The first question asked voters; “how likely are you to vote in the General Election on November 4 2014?” 73% of those polled indicated that they were highly likely to vote in the upcoming November 2014 election, while 17% stated they were ‘likely’ and 10% remain ‘somewhat likely’ to vote. The 859 Floridian voters also expressed a growing disapproval rating for the President of the United States, Barack Obama; with 53% saying they disapprove of his performance. 38% of voters suggested they approve of his job performance while 9% were unsure.
Voters were then asked about their initial opinions for potential candidates for the Presidency in 2016. When asked to choose between Democratic potential candidate Hillary Clinton, and current Florida State Senator Marco Rubio, 44% stated they would support Clinton, 36% would vote for Rubio while 21% remain undecided at this time. When choosing between Clinton and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, the ratio narrowed, with Clinton holding a narrow 39 – 37% margin over Bush – with 24% remaining undecided.
The topic of the Gravis Marketing poll then shifted to statewide politics. Voters were asked; “If the election for Governor were held today, who would you vote for?” According to those polled, both Democratic candidate Charlie Crist and Republican Rick Scott received 37% support. 26% of those polled are undecided on who they would vote for Governor in the upcoming November 4th election.
Finally, the topic of the Gravis Marketing poll completed using the Gravis Internet Panels and Automated Phone replies asked voters; “If the 2014 election were held today, how would you vote for the current amendment Use of Marijuana for Certain Medical Conditions?” This initiative on the State of Florida ballot in November allows the medical use of marijuana for individuals with debilitating diseases as determined by a licensed Florida physician. It also allows caregivers to assist patients’ medical use of marijuana which is to be regulated by The Department of Health.
When asked if they would vote for or against the amendment to the State Constitution; a wide majority of 64% of registered voters indicated they would vote ‘Yes’ for the amendment, 26% oppose the medical marijuana initiative while 10% remain unsure.
